Nepal end World Cup campaign with a win, beat Scotland
Nepal defeated Scotland by seven wickets on the back of Dipendra Singh Ari’s brilliant performance. Nepal thus opened their account of victory and ended their campaign in the T20 World Cup with a win. Batting first in the Group C match, Scotland scored 170 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs with the help of a half-century by Michael Jones. In reply, Dipendra scored a fifty, helping Nepal to win by scoring 171 runs for three wickets in 19.2 overs.
Scotland lost the toss and elected to bat first. Openers George Munsey and Michael Jones provided a solid start, adding 80 runs for the first wicket. Although Munsey managed only 27, Jones made a brilliant 71 off 45 balls, hitting 8 fours and 3 sixes. However, wickets fell at regular intervals after that, slowing the run rate. However, the team managed to score 170 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. In bowling, Sompal Kami took 3 wickets, while Sandeep Lamichhane took 2 wickets for Nepal.
The journey of Nepal and Scotland teams has come to an end in the group stage itself and both are out of the race for the Super Eight. It was a matter of relief for Nepal that after three consecutive defeats, it got a win and the team left the World Cup with respect. Scotland and Nepal lost three out of four matches each, while winning one match each. Both teams have two points each. Scotland defeated Italy in the second match, which was its only win in the tournament. It is worth noting that Scotland got a place in the World Cup at the last moment in place of Bangladesh and even though the team could not advance further, its players impressed with their performance.
