The final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 was played between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to bowl first. By winning the match, India won the ICC T20 World Cup trophy for the third time.
The Indian openers tore apart the New Zealand bowlers. India scored a total of 255 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. New Zealand had a target of 256 runs. Abhishek completed his half-century in 18 balls, but was out after scoring 52 runs in 21 balls. However, India had got a strong start by then. Samson completed his half-century in 33 balls, which is his third consecutive half-century in this T20 World Cup. Sanju was again out after playing an innings of 89 runs. Ishan Kishan completed his half-century in 23 balls, but he was out after scoring 54 runs. Surya did not open his account and Hardik scored only 18 runs. Shivam Dubey scored 26 runs in 8 balls.
Talking about India’s bowling, Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets, Axar Patel took 3 wickets, while Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy and Abhishek Sharma took 1 wicket each.
Chasing a target of 256, New Zealand had a poor start. The team lost their first wicket in the third over. Phil Allen managed only nine runs in seven balls. Rachin Ravindra managed just one run in two balls. Glenn Phillips scored five runs in five balls. Mark Chapman managed only three runs in eight balls. Tim Seifert scored a quickfire 52 runs in 26 balls. New Zealand lost the match due to poor batting and bowling.
Neesham took three wickets for New Zealand, while Matt Henry and Rachin each took one wicket.
Team India has won the T20 World Cup title for the third time.
