Team India made a humiliating start to the Super 8 campaign, losing to South Africa in Ahmedabad.
Team India suffered a crushing 76-run defeat against South Africa in the Super 8s of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. This was Team India’s first defeat in the T20 World Cup.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a score of 187 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. David Miller led the batting for South Africa with a strong 63. Dewald Brevis also scored 45. While bowling for South Africa, Marco Jansen took 4 wickets and Keshav Maharaj took 3 wickets.
In reply to South Africa’s 187, no one other than Shivam Dube could perform well. He scored 42 runs, while Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets for India.
India had to face defeat in the very first match of Super-8.
