In the 28th match of the T20 World Cup, Afghanistan defeated the UAE by 5 wickets in a thrilling match that went down to the last over. This is Afghanistan’s first win in the tournament. However, their chances of reaching the Super 8 are slim. Batting first, the UAE posted 160 runs. In response, Afghanistan narrowly won the match, losing 5 wickets in a match that went down to the last over.
Chasing UAE’s target of 161, Afghanistan had to bat until the last over. Ibrahim Zadran played a brilliant innings of 53 for Afghanistan. Azmatullah Omarzai, who scored an unbeaten 40 off 21 balls, led the team to victory. Darwis Rasooli scored 33 runs. Mohammad Arfan and Junaid Siddiqui took two wickets each for UAE.
UAE’s start was poor
Afghanistan’s fast bowlers Azmatullah Umarzai (four wickets for 15 runs) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (two wickets for 31 runs) struck at regular intervals, but Shoaib held one end steady. Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan (one wicket for 24 runs) won the toss and elected to bowl first. UAE lost both their openers, Aryansh Sharma (0) and captain Mohammad Wasim (10), for just 13 runs in the second over.
