Australia start Women’s World Cup with a win, beat New Zealand by 89 runs.

Australia defeated New Zealand by 89 runs in their opening match of the Women’s ODI World Cup. Australia won the toss and elected to bat first at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Wednesday. The team scored 326 runs in 49.3 overs. In reply, New Zealand were all out for 237 in 43.2 overs.

Ashleigh Gardner scored a century Australia’s all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner scored a century. She scored 115 runs in 83 balls. Her innings included 16 fours and one six. Apart from her, Phoebe Litchfield scored 45, Kim Garth 38, Ellyse Perry 33, Tahlia McGrath 26, captain Alyssa Healy 19, Sophie Molyneux 14, Beth Mooney 12, Annabel Sutherland 5 and Alana King scored 4 runs. Darcie Brown returned unbeaten after scoring 1 run.

New Zealand suffered their first blow on the first ball of the first over. Opener Georgia Plimer was dismissed for 1 run. She couldn’t even open her account. The team suffered its second blow in the second over when Suzie Bates was dismissed for a duck.

Captain Sophie Devine scored a century. She hit 12 fours and 3 sixes in her 111-run innings.
