Indian women's team wins first match of ODI World Cup

Beat Sri Lanka by 59 runs; Deepti Sharma’s all-round performance.

The Indian women’s team has started the Women’s ODI World Cup with a win. The team defeated Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 59 runs in the opening match on Tuesday. Chasing 271 runs at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, the Sri Lankan team was all out for 211 runs in 45.4 overs. Deepti Sharma took 3 wickets. Sneh Rana got 2 wickets. Sri Lankan captain Chamari Atapattu (43 runs) scored the most runs.

ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 :- India were 124 for 6 when Deepti Sharma (53) and Amanjot Kaur (57) added a century partnership to take the team past 250.

Chasing a target of 271, the Sri Lankan team had a poor start. They lost their first wicket at 30 runs. Captain Atapattu and Samarawickrama then put on a fifty-run partnership. After this partnership broke, the team lost wickets at regular intervals.
